In Mandarin 後面 is pronounced Hòumiàn.
The first character 後 Hòu means behind. the second character 面 miàn means surface.
面 miàn can be used with above/below/right/left also.
我在你後面 Wǒ zài nǐ hòumiàn means I'm behind you. So if you're in the dark...
